Still thinking.

I am still weighing my options for the future.
In my previous post, I wasn't trying to minimize the value of a college education.
I realize that a college degree is needed to be accepted as part of the "norm" of urban, elitist society.
I am simply saying that if I will attend college, I would rather go to a school that has relevance to me.
Going to a school without my intended area of focus would be counter-productive if not a waste of time.

  1. Just a thought Ariel: I really don't think there's a correlation between education and elitism. Even at "elite" colleges. I really think elitism is a product of HOW one chooses to use ones education. Social privilege can always be abused. The onus is on the educated person to use their abilities well.

  2. There's definitely a hierarchy with education. A certain relative of mine once told me that a certain college that I was considering "isn't a real college."
For baseless reasons, schools without a "name value" are looked down upon.

  3. There are other paths of education that don't involve college or putting yourself $40,000 in student loan debt. There are vocational schools, apprenticeships, on the job experience and moving up in the industry that way. Feeling pressured by your loved ones, or whomever is the pits, but remember, it's your life, and only you can follow your dreams, not them.
